Mr. Jim Riley ‘79 serves as the Executive Director for Utilities & Energy Services. In this role he is responsible for oversight and management of all utility and energy systems at the university. This includes direct involvement with energy procurement and management of utility production and distribution systems, water and environmental services, utility plant operation/maintenance, automation and control of building cooling/heating systems, and utility metering and cost recovery. Riley is the chair of the Energy Action Plan 2015 Advisory Committee. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering from Texas A&M University at Galveston.
Prior to joining Texas A&M University; Riley served as the manager for Facility Management Services at Reliant Energy; operations manager for facilities and engineering at Rice University; superintendent of power and production at Morton Salt Division; owner/manager of Riverstone construction contracting; and maritime fleet operations supervisor at Texaco Marine.
Riley is active within several industry organizations including the International District Energy Association and frequently represents Texas A&M University at campus energy forums. He is a Certified Energy Manager with the Association of Energy Engineers, and an Educational Facilities Professional with Association of Physical Plant Administrators.
Riley enjoys camping, hunting, gardening, boating, spending time with his wife and children, and operating Seven Oaks B&B.
