Kelly Wellman ‘95 serves as the Director of Sustainability for Texas A&M University. In this role she is responsible for educating the campus about sustainability, promoting sustainable practices both on and off campus, and providing resources and support for people who wish to incorporate sustainable practices into their work and life. Wellman is a member of the campus Tree Advisory Committee and the Sustainability & Environmental Management Committee. She represents the university as an Executive member on the Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in geography from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
Prior to joining Texas A&M University Wellman worked for the City of Bryan; originally as the recycling coordinator and later as the public works liaison, environmental services division manager and finally the environmental services director.
Wellman is particularly proud of the work she did developing the first Campus Sustainability Master Plan and Sustainability Brand, and the recognition of Texas A&M University as a charter member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System. During her tenure, the students passed a referendum to authorize the Aggie Green Fund – a student initiated and student controlled fund that empowers students to take action and bring about novel and creative sustainable changes to the Texas A&M University campus. The campus has also benefited from the growth of the Office of Sustainability internship program.
She is a 2011 recipient of the President's Meritorious Service Award.
She enjoys being outdoors, camping, nature walks, tennis, reading, and advocating for social justice.
